A Saint and Sofia Seasonal Soundtrack
By
Now that we’ve waved goodbye to the bright tunes of summer it’s time to embrace the soft hums of autumn to complete your yearly playlist.
We’ve selected seven albums to help you adjust to the new season. So, grab a pumpkin-spiced latte, your favourite woolly hat, and head out for a stroll among the fallen leaves with these records playing through your headphones.
Noah Kahan – Stick Season
Vermont-born artist Noah Kahan shot onto the scene in 2022 due to the breakout success of his single “Stick Season,” and his album of the same name is our first recommendation. Blending folk, Americana, and rock music, this record captures the feeling of being in between seasons, not knowing what the world’s going to throw at you next – but that’s all part of the fun.
Saint and Sofia’s Standout Track: “Orange Juice”
Harvest Moon – Neil Young
An undisputed country music legend, Neil Young never fails to provide a record guaranteed to get you into the autumn spirit. If we had to pick just one, it would be Harvest Moon. The artist’s 21st studio album, this LP feels like a cloudy autumn day when all you want to do is stay inside and stare out the window – and we love it.
Saint and Sofia’s Standout Track: “Harvest Moon”
Taylor Swift – Folklore
You can’t have autumn without Taylor Swift’s Folklore. The singer’s first foray into folk, this album captures the feeling of moving through the seasons, unsure where you may end up. Produced with The National’s Aaron Dessner and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, this record is best enjoyed on a stroll through a forest with a hot chocolate in hand.
Saint and Sofia’s Standout Track: “Cardigan”
Parachutes – Coldplay
Coldplay – the band everyone loves to hate. Well, if loving Coldplay’s wrong, we don’t want to be right. Case in point? Parachutes. The British band’s debut album is what launched Chris Martin and the boys into stardom. Whether you’re sobbing to “Yellow” or swaying to “Shiver,” this LP is autumn in a bottle. It captures the cosiness autumn promises to bring – we think it’s best enjoyed with a hot chocolate or maybe a glass of red wine.
Saint and Sofia’s Standout Track: “Sparks”
Bruce Springsteen – The River
The Boss (Bruce Springsteen) has an album for every season: Born in the USA is for summer, Darkness on the Edge of Town is for winter, Born to Run is for spring, and The River is destined for autumn days. Bruce’s fifth studio album was released on 17th October 1980 and has remained a staple of autumn listening since. We’d recommend spinning this one on a road trip while wild winds are blowing up a storm outside.
Saint and Sofia’s Standout Track: “Sherry Darling”
Chappell Roan – The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess
We’ve had brat summer, so is it time for a Midwest Princess autumn? Chappell Roan’s debut album delivers a mix of instant pop classics, passionate power ballads, and a smattering of synthy delights to keep us partying long into chilly autumnal nights.
Saint and Sofia’s Standout Track: “Pink Pony Club”
Trouble Will Find Me – The National
We’ve chosen an unconventional entry for our final pick. Trouble Will Find Me by Brooklyn-born band The National is the definition of an autumn album. From the leaf-scattering melodies of “Demons” to the seasonal sadness of “I Need My Girl,” if you’re looking for autumn essentials, this is the album for you.
Saint and Sofia’s Standout Track: “This Is the Last Time”
