Discover Your Perfect Fit: How To Measure Your Body Shape

By Emily Weatherill

It’s an age-old technique to use your body shape to pick your clothes, but the truth is, every body looks beautiful in whatever you choose to wear. Sometimes, however, it can be helpful to know where you sit within the classic silhouettes to help you get an idea of how different garments are likely to fall on you. So, if this is your first time measuring your body shape, allow us to talk you through it.

What You’ll Need

  • Tape Measure (the flexible kind)
  • Mirror (optional, but helpful)
  • Someone to help (but you an do it solo if needed)

Take Four Essential Measurements

  1. Shoulders: with relaxed posture, wrap the tape around the broadest point, just above the shoulder baldes.
  1. Bust: measure around the fullest part of your chest (without squeezing).
  1. Waist: find your natural waist (usually just above the belly button) and wrap the tape snugly.
  1. Hips: place the tape around the fullest part of your hips and bottom.

Most people aren’t a perfect match for one shape, so don’t stress. Use your measurements as a starting point, but let your style lead the way. Try different silhouettes, mix and match until you find styles that feel just right.
