Everything You Need To Know About Wearing Grunge Florals

By Emily Weatherill

There’s an eco-conscious subculture driving the narrative of fashion this season, and an obsession with all things nature is clear to see across AW24. But it’s not the same blooms you’ve seen all summer; it’s a darker take on florals.

Grunge Florals

Named Grunge Florals, this gritty trend finds its roots in nature but switches the vibrancy of flowers for a darker and more low-impact palate. Shades of grey, black, and brown take centre stage, with blurred prints and shadowy flowers offering a grainy finish.

It’s safe to say this aesthetic is a key investment for your wardrobe this season, but how do you style the new, nature-inspired trend?

All the Saint and Sofia pieces in the New Yellow Fade Floral print. A midi dress, button-up blouse, long-sleeve top with contrasting sleeves, a short sleeve crewneck tee, a long-sleeved mini dress, a mini tiered skirt.

All Out Florals

Go big and bold by wearing Grunge Florals from head to toe. An easy way to do this is with midi or maxi-length dresses like our new Maggie Wrap Midi. This style features our Yellow Fade Floral print, a perfect example of the Grunge Floral trend. Its dark background works to immediately add grit to the floaty silhouette, while the blurred effect on the yellow flowers adds edge to the blooms. Pair it with black combat boots like Southbank Studded Boot and a leather jacket like the Bonham Studded Biker to complete the look.

Tights and Leather

Play into the grunge aesthetic by layering mini skirts or dresses over sheer black tights and leather. The Etta Mini Layered Skirt pairs perfectly with the Noho Boot or the Southbank Studded Boot for a combat-inspired look. Style it with the Austen Crew Neck Tee in black and layer over the Luther Leather Jacket

For something with a touch more colour, try this combo with the Mini Olivia Zip Up Dress in Blue Speckled Fire – the floral print across this long-sleeved design is carefully imagined in Autumnal hues of browns and oranges.

Grunge Florals with a Tailored Edge

For formal occasions or days in the office, use the Grunge Florals trend to add a playful edge to your tailored ensembles. A pair of masterfully made trousers like our Keller Wide Legs or Cambridge Pants can be elevated by a floral-printed blouse. The new Esme Zip Up Top features sheer sleeves in our grunge floral print, while the elegant Brook Wrap Blouse in Red Winter Floral features flowers across its entire wrap-around silhouette.

You could switch the narrative if you prefer and opt for a floral bottom half with the Corinne Pant in Abstract Orchid or the Sienna High Waisted Pant in Black Cream Floral. Both styles offer a dark and shadowy take on the verdant blooms of summer. Style floral trousers with black tees and blouses to complete the aesthetic.
