Motherhood and Fashion: Why Becoming a Mum Changed Zoë de Pass’ View On Clothes and Creating Her Own Brand

By Emily Weatherill

Resilient, caring, and selfless are three adjectives commonly associated with motherhood. But for Zoë de Pass, fun, creative, and inspiring may be a more appropriate choice.

If you haven’t met Zoë, the first thing to know is that she’s a force of nature. Not only is she a doting mum of three, but she also runs a successful influencer channel that changes the perception of fashion for mums, has a First Class degree in 3D design, and is the founder of her own eyewear brand, Zoë de Pass Eyewear. She’s a clear example of how to live life to the fullest.

We caught up with her to find out how she makes it all happen.

Zoë de Pass Eyewear

Founded in 2022, Zoë de Pass Eyewear creates bold and vibrant sunglasses designed to celebrate colour, confidence, and adventure. Each pair merges high-quality materials with a playful aesthetic – meaning they’re the perfect accessory for making a statement.

“I’ve always had a thing for sunglasses. For me, they symbolise sunshine – and sunshine brings smiles, joy, and good times,” Zoë tells us about the inspiration behind the brand, and we have to agree; sunny days with our shades on always means unforgettable memories.

Never Enough Time

Life is busy on its own, but add a dose of motherhood, founder responsibilities, and influencer tasks, and it’s safe to say the day begins to feel a bit packed. So when I asked Zoë about the most challenging part of making everything work, it wasn’t a surprise to hear her say: “Time.”

“There’s never enough of it, and it’s the most valuable thing we have. I work hard, but I also want to make time to enjoy life. If you’re constantly chasing work without living in the moment, it defeats the purpose.”

So, how does she stay grounded? By living a balanced life and trying to squeeze as much time as possible into everything she loves and enjoys. “Balance is everything. If I can work, spend time with my family and friends, and keep my home in order, I feel good. Of course, it’s never perfectly balanced; life often feels chaotic, but I try to make sure there’s room for both productivity and fun.”

Fun With Her Wardrobe

Creative outlets come to Zoë in abundance. There’s the obvious: designing new shades for her brand. And the practical: decorating her home. But the other way she enjoys letting her creative spirit run wild is with her wardrobe.

Clothes fill a huge part of Zoë’s life; it’s the foundation for her Instagram (@dresslikeamum) after all. But it wasn’t until she became a mum that she really started to enjoy playing dress up. “I became more confident and started dressing for myself rather than others. I cared less about what people thought and more about what made me feel good. I say to any mums wanting to explore their style – do it! And wear what makes you happy.”

But what makes Zoë happy, we hear you ask. “I love mixing patterns and textures in unexpected ways. I’m drawn to pieces that are playful, bold, and make me feel like me.”

One Final Word of Advice

Maybe Zoë’s story has inspired you today, and you’re feeling like it might be time to embark on your own creative journey around your everyday tasks as a mother. We asked Zoë for her advice: “If you believe in something and feel passionate about it, go for it. Becoming a mum often brings a new level of focus and resilience, and it can be a brilliant time to pursue something meaningful. But it’s also okay not to add more pressure – building something from scratch is hard work and comes with sacrifices. Trust your instincts and do what feels right for you.”
