Where To Celebrate Burns Night In London

By Emily Weatherill

Maybe you’re a seasoned Burns Night celebrator, or perhaps this year will mark your first attendance to the festivities – whatever experience level you are, 25th January is set to be a night to remember. The day itself celebrates the life of Scotland’s greatest poet, Robert Burns, and, traditionally, restaurants and bars host evenings filled with haggis, ceilidhs, and whisky.

For those London dwellers looking to mark the occasion, you’ll be relieved to hear you won’t be needing a flight up to Scotland; the city is hosting its fair share of Burns Nights events.

The Libertine

Found inside the Old Vaults of The Royal Exchange, this restaurant provides the perfect backdrop for Burns Night celebrations. This year, it’s celebrating with live performances and poetry readings in an event hosted by Johnnie Walker (the perfect whisky for the occasion). There’s even a three-course menu to enjoy – and you’ll find haggis dishes to satiate your appetite.

The Ceilidh Club

It’s fondly known as London’s biggest Burns Night event, and this year it has returned for another evening of jigs, poetry, haggis, and Scottish reels. If it’s your first time learning the traditional dances, there’s a live caller to talk you through the steps and have you moving like a master by the end of the night. Oh, and if you find yourself with a fond affliction for the ceilidh afterwards, you’ll be pleased to know that the hall is open all year long so you don’t have to leave the music behind after the 25th.

Skylight

Head to the skies and enjoy the celebration at Skylight’s rooftop bar. Not only are the views phenomenal, but the venue also plans to welcome guests to the sound of bagpipes before offering a whisky tasting and a highland dance performance – that’s got to be up there, right?

Carousel London

Maybe whisky and dancing aren’t your calling, but haggis and food are. Not to fear, the Carousel London is hosting a fine dining event where five talented chefs cook up contemporary iterations of traditional Scottish cuisine for you to enjoy. Our palette is already salivating.

The Phoenix Arts Club

A theatrical twist to your Burns Night. The Phoenix Arts Club in Soho is hosting a show and supper with some of Scotland’s best performers. You can expect awe-inducing cabaret, burlesque, and traditional poetry readings after a three-course meal that can be washed down with classic Scottish whisky.
